Sitting cross legged might seem like a simple ask, but in reality there are a lot of people who struggle with this. When I was first in Asia, this was a common ask, as many people sat on the floor of the home to eat. There were even some restaurants that were setup in this way. I found myself uncomfortable sitting longer than a few minutes like this. All of my colleagues and later my family would often look at me oddly like I was some sort of alien being.
“Why can’t he sit like this?”
To them, something that seemed so normal was extremely foreign to my body which had spent decades in chairs, sitting at tables.
Recently, a client told me this was a goal of theirs. Based on what I already knew about their range of motion, we set out to provide some tangible ways to improve capability to sit comfortably.
