New Revelations About My Newborn Son And My Previous Left Shoulder Pain

An aha moment that came from a deeper awareness and experience

A while back I talked about my Right Shoulder Pain and how I overcame it. I talked about the lessons that I learned along the way and how some of what I was doing at the time and some of the things I wasn’t doing, led to my left shoulder issues.

How I Overcame Right Shoulder Pain and Ended Up With Left Shoulder Pain

Most of my training prior to 2014 or so was focused on traditional lifts like Bench Press, Deadlift and Squats. The majority of my training was done like a bodybuilder. I would focus heavily on the movements that would improve aesthetics and my muscularity as opposed to focus on my overall function and movement quality.

Recently, I had an aha moment about my left shoulder as my newborn son provided me with more insights. It’s an interesting thing to have all my children nearly exactly 5 years apart. It not only gives you a broad period of experience with each child, but it almost acts as a control.

When you have kids at random intervals, it’s almost like you’ve never had time to get through certain things, learn enough and experience enough before being thrust into the next. I’m sure there can be arguments made for having kids in closer proximity, and we never planned this, however the space has provided room for reflections.

The kids are like benchmarks. They are clear indicators of a specific time. They don’t get jumbled. Our second child was a pandemic baby, which made her infant and toddler phase of life drastically different than our first child’s life pre-pandemic.

Our children denote specific markers in our life. For me at least, I can look back and tie my kids to the way I felt, the injuries I had and what I was doing in life at that time.

My newborn has given me insight into the impacts of a child on mobility, posture and the ways in which we move or don’t move.

Listen to my revelations and let me know if you’ve ever taken a close look at all the things you were doing when you ended up injured or in pain
