Exercises to Improve Your Knees & Hamstrings
Try adding these 3 exercises to your training program
When I get questions about knees, I think one of the major points that people often don’t realize is that the hamstrings do more than just bend the joint. The hamstring is responsible for rotating the knee and if we cannot control the rotation of the knee then we are missing a key piece of the joint’s movement capacity.
If we think about the fact that every time our foot lands, it never lands the same way and that ever time we bend our knee while running it doesn’t use the same tissues, we begin to understand that there is a spectrum of movement.
When I am working with new clients, I try to help my client understand their joints and their movement in 3 dimensional space. We look at our joints as pulleys and hinges only and that’s not our fault. In school, this is the only way many of us were taught. In Physics, the body is used (often times the biceps) for word problems and equations for levers.
Our organism is way more complex than these ideas, but most of us don’t go beyond High School level discussion of the human body. This is unfortunate, because your body is the one thing you will own for life. We should definitely dedicate more time to fully understanding it.
In this video, I demonstrate a few ways you can consider introducing different training inputs to your knee joint that’s specifically focused on your Hamstring tissue.
